WATERLOO – John C. Taylor, 95, of Waterloo, NY, passed away Tuesday (July 16, 2024) in Rochester General Hospital with family at his side. Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday (August 9) at the Coe-Genung Funeral Home, 46 W. Main St., Waterloo, NY. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday (August 10) at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 101 E. Williams St., Waterloo, NY. Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Haaugard, Rector will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River Road Waterloo, NY 13165, or Waterloo Library & Historical Society, 31 E Williams St, Waterloo, NY 13165. John was born August 25, 1928, in Sayre, PA, the son of Ralph S. and Marie Carman Taylor. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School, Mansfield, PA. John attended Mansfield University from 1946 to 1947 and later earned his Associates Degree in Business from Bryant and Stranton College in Buffalo, NY in 1949. He retired in 1989 from a long career with Sylvania, later known as Philips ECG, in Seneca Falls, NY. John was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Waterloo for over 70 years. He served as a member and in leadership roles in several church groups including Vestry, Couple's Club, Men of St. Paul's, and Social Club. He was an Usher, a Church Elder, and received "Man of the Year" awards at St. Paul's in 1996 and 2022. In the community, John was a Cub Scout Leader, an Officer in the Waterloo Rotary Club, including President, served as a Trustee of the Waterloo Library & Historical Society, and participated in numerous other philanthropic endeavors. John was musically talented, having played the trumpet and piano in his younger years, was an avid Buffalo Bill's fan, and enjoyed Yankees baseball and college football. John was widely known as a man of the utmost integrity, kindness and fortitude. He put others first, in all circumstances. Exceptionally devoted to family, church and community, his passing is a loss deeply felt by those privileged to have known him. His legacy of kindness and strength will continue to enrich lives for many years to come. He is survived by daughter Joyce (Raymond) McClary of Meshoppen, PA; sons John (Stacy) M. Taylor of Farmington, NY and James (Jodie) Taylor of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Sean (Lia Trimble) Garvey, Brianna (Ryan) Detwiller, Jesse (Christian) Taylor, Calie J. Taylor and Chloe J. Taylor; great-grandchildren Kendal Detwiller, Waylin Detwiller, Jesse Taylor, Jr., Sada Garvey, and Mackenzie Hyatt; niece Michele (Chris) Ferreira of Whitehouse Station, NJ.; and first cousin, Barbara Taylor Winter, of Pottstown, PA. John was predeceased by his wife Elner J. Taylor; daughter Jan Marie Taylor; and sisters Jane Morgan and Ann Taylor.
