I'm so sorry to hear of Ray's passing. I was a fellow music teacher in the Geneva school district. He enjoyed interacting with the students so much, and was so passionate about what he taught. I will always remember Ray for his joie de vivre and for him always saying, "life is good!"

Art, Matthew, and family. I have so many memories of your dad and Diane. We had many laughs and were friends since my daughter was a small child and we all lived in Waverly NY. I wish for each of you God's grace and knowing that you were always a part of every letter Ray and I shared through the years. He ALWAYS found the kindest and proudest words for the two little loves of his life - His granddaughters. At last, he and Diane are reunited and will walk together in eternity. One day, we will have a reunion of friends and family that have left us, but only for a little while. Beverly Ann Myers

Dear Matt,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Your dad was an incredible man with a bigger than life personality. I loved working with him at the Middle School. He was always upbeat and smiling. He taught with passion and brought life to his lessons. The kids he taught loved him and being in his class. Both of our sons had your dad and enjoyed his classes. They would talk about him and the wisdom he would impart as part of his lesson that day. They learned a lot more than music! He was truly gifted.
May all the wonderful memories you have help you during this difficult time. Your dad was unique. There will never be any one like him. He definitely made the world a better place and touched the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. May he rest in peace.

I knew Ray through the NMRA activities of the Lakeshore Division, a Division that exists in no small part to his efforts. I remember having lively discussions with him on any number of topics not related to model railroading. For example, I’m a lover of classical music, and, I was quite surprised to learn that he had attended Eastman. Quite a guy….

Mr. Howard was my music teacher at Chemung Elementary School from 1969-1974. I will never forget the many, many songs he taught me. Titanic, Feeling Groovy, Little houses to name a few. He made music class fun taking us out on the front steps of the school to sing outside while he played his guitar. He shared so much of his knowledge with us and he definitely left forever lasting memories.

We are heartbroken. Ray was such a joyful and exuberant teacher whose sense of humor and delightful anecdotes will always be remembered. He was the only person to define growing up for his students as "being the person who cleans the drain in the sink." I still laugh at that today.
His love of music permeated and his spirit was undaunted. Ray, you will be missed.
