Obituary of Harry Francis Amidon

TYRE/WATERLOO – Harry F. Amidon, 87, passed away Sunday (February 4, 2024) at Living Center South at Geneva.
In keeping with Harry's wishes, there will be no calling hours. There will be a private service.

Harry was born January 1, 1937, in Seneca Falls, NY, the son of Harvey and Alice Yoder Amidon. He was a 1955 graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, NY. He was a U. S. Army Veteran serving from 1956 to 1958. Harry retired from Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls, NY, after 39 years of employment with the company. He was elected in 1977 as the Supervisor for the Town of Tyre for ten years including serving as the Chairman of the Seneca County Board of Supervisors in 1980. Harry had a love of athletics as he was a volunteer coach for Waterloo Little League, Youth Basketball, Vince Lombardi Football, and Waterloo Volleyball. His greatest joy was to watch his children and grandchildren playing the sports they loved. Harry was inducted into the Mynderse Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1953 and 1954 sectional championship baseball team. He was a very talented woodworker and carpenter. He spent many hours in his basement workshop making furniture for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Patricia "Patsy" Smallwood Amidon having celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary December 14, 2023; daughter Allison Amidon of Waterloo, NY; sons Richard (Amber) Amidon of Waterloo, NY and Jack (Elizabeth) Amidon of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren Jillian Panek, Michael Panek, Logan Amidon, Dylan Amidon, and Luke Amidon; sister Margaret Ann (Douglas) Beach of South Glastonbury, CT; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
Harry was predeceased by siblings Lewis Amidon, Gordon Amidon, George Amidon, Jean Olchowy, Nina "Betty" Alcott, Barbara Oakes, Alice Erikson, James "Jimmy" Amidon, and Jack Amidon.
