Irene was born December 4, 1923, in Geneva, NY, the daughter of Lawrence and Frances Lathey McGillivray. After attending Geneva High School, she married William Maxwell Evans on December 9, 1939 at the Pine Plains Church, PreEmption Rd. Waterloo. Their early years were spent farming "up north" in Turin, NY. In 1947 Irene and family moved to Tyre where she and husband "Max"started a portable sawmill business that spanned over three decades. During that time she raised three children, was elected to several terms as Tyre Town Tax Collector and was a founding member of the Magee Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. Irene could be seen many Saturday nights working bingo at the Magee firehouse. She was a faithful member of what was the Assembly of God church in Waterloo, even long after she stopped driving, thanks to wonderful friends. Irene was an avid reader and gardener, tending to her flowers like they were children. After her husband passed away, she spent several years volunteering at the Seneca County House of Concern. One of her finest qualities was giving love and support to her children and grandchildren, being a babysitter, teacher or confidant as needed. Irene, Mom, Gramma and GG will be forever missed as an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children Shirley A. St. Germaine of Seneca Falls, NY, Thomas (Chun Ling) Evans of Waterloo, NY, and William (Palma Fratto) Evans Sr. of Geneva, NY; grandchildren Karen (Kenneth) Scharett, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Herron, Michael (Lindsay) St. Germaine, Jolene (Blasé Theodore) Creighton, Jonathan (Julie Backus) Evans, Marie Evans, Kevin Evans, Jeannette (Charles) Maloy, Staci Evans, Kristin Evans, and William (Jenni) Evans Jr.; great-grandchildren Kenneth (Ashley Mumford) Scharett Jr., Rachel Herron, Carly Herron, Nick Kriegelstein, Malakai Taylor, Christopher Evans, Elliot Evans and Adrein Evans; great-great grandchildren Joshua Peterson and Irene Scharett; sister Mabel Grace (Paul) Salerno of Shallotte, NC; sister-in-law Nancy Lathey of Geneva, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Irene is predeceased by her husband William Maxwell Evans in 2005; mother Frances Lathey Dorn; father and stepmother Lawrence (Leita) McGillivray; sisters Elizabeth McGillivray, Doris Shaw, Marie Lowrey, and Leita Eveland; brothers Lawrence McGillivray, William McGillivray and William Lathey; and infant grandson William M.
