Don and I wish we could be in NY on Saturday for Skip's burial. We're grateful for those who will be there and we join you in spirit. It did our hearts good to go thru some pictures this past week and enjoy the memories. Here are a couple of old Brownie camera B&Ws we found and a few others not quite so old.
We have Gina to thank for the one of Skip & Mom on the porch, and for catching him in the act of making his family-famous spaghetti sauce. Maybe Gin can tell us what went into the kettle to make the sauce so tasty.
The chef's hat and apron were a silly gift to thank him for getting the family together for a backyard barbecue. He was actually game enough to wear them while he cooked our supper. What a guy!

Ken at Huntington, 2018
Message from Susan, Social Work coordinator for Huntington Living Center, who arranged Ken's video chats with the family.
I am sorry for your loss but am so happy that you were able to facetime with Ken in the prior days. He was loved by all here at HLC, such a nice guy. Thank you for sharing Ken with us, you were fortunate to have a brother as nice as him. Best regards, Susan

I haven't seen much of "Skip" for several years. I do remember visiting his family on Taylor Ave when we were kids.
His family was always fun to be around.
I did see him at one of his niece's or nephew's graduation in Cayuga, NY in 1994. I didn't see him again until 2020
when I visited him at Huntington while seeing my mother. During my short visits at Huntington, he was very alert and
displayed the sense of humor that several people have written about on this memorial wall. I always liked the enclosed
photo from the 1994 graduation - I think "Skip" looks rather distinguished.
I am sure his family will miss him and I wish his family the best and hope they keep his memories alive for years to come.

I will always remember Skippy being a happy and warm man. He would welcome you with a smile and a laugh. When I was a kid, I remember how happy and proud he was when he got his Camaro. It was a brilliant blue. He took me for a drive in it and I just remember the beaming smile and twinkle in his eyes. He went to a few of my soccer games and while you could tell he was not that into the game, I could hear his cheers from the sidelines supporting me as always.
During the summer of 2019, our twin girls were able to meet him. They had such a wonderful time sharing a snack and visiting on the veranda of the nursing home. Skippy was all smiles and was so warm and welcoming to the very antsy 4-year-olds who wanted to run and jump all over him, the furniture and the plants.
Skippy will be missed by all who met him and remember his kind smile.

When we learned that Skip had been tested positive for COVID, I wrote him a letter, hoping that he would receive it in time. I’m sharing it today as a birthday message for him, to say again how much he’s loved.
Dec 24, 2020
Dear Ken,
We heard today from Barb that you tested positive. Damn sneaky virus. Well, we’re not going to let you fight it by yourself. Don and I are praying for a good recovery. Our kids are praying for you too. And we’re not the only ones.
Not to get all sappy on you, but you’re in the middle of a whole lot of love coming in from all directions. Love is powerful stuff and you’re at the center of it. Hold that thought and when you’re feeling down, let it comfort you.
Love finds you where ever you are. And because God is love and He cares about you too, you know our prayers will do you good.
I joke that you’re the best brother I ever had and we laugh because you know you’re my one and only brother. Do you know that you’re Don’s only brother too?
And neither of us can think of a better one. You’re good and kind. You’re smart and love learning how the world works. You’ve got a great sense of humor and you’re good company. What more could we ask?
So hang in there. We’re holding you close at heart.
Hugs, Helen & Don
There is a line in an old hymn that offers comfort to us today: “Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been granted in what He ordaineth?”
My brother didn't recover. But death was kind. His attending physician told us that Skip went peacefully, unaware of his surroundings and in no pain. We will miss him terribly but our hearts are divided between sadness and gratitude. His ordeal is over, he’s free.

I remember as a child I would come over to your mom and dad's. Skip always made me laugh. I would see him at the Senior citizen's having lunch and him sitting with Gary and I. What a wonderful lunch we would have.

Ken was a great brother-in-law. I loved when we could visit in Waterloo and later video chats during Covid.
Our conversations covered everything from the Lionel trains we both had as children, to how steam engines worked, to the way jet engines produce thrust. It was fun to hear which articles got his attention from the train magazines and Smithsonians we sent.
Because of his love of travel and history he’d share what he learned from his National Geographic each month, strange tales from Transylvania and how the monuments were built in Egypt, and environmental issues like climate change, species loss and pollution in the Great Lakes.
He kept up with our west coast weather and like Patti, was an Oregon Ducks fan. This picture was taken in front of the Discovery Center in Eastern Oregon when he and Pat came out in 2006. He was fascinated by the artifacts displayed there from the Lewis & Clark expedition.
The week before Christmas he read us the funny captions and held the pictures up to the camera to show the Maine Coon cat book he got from Barb. We shared a lot of laughs before the nurse came to say our time was up. We didn’t know then that it would turn out to be our last chance to see and talk with him.
We will miss you, Skip. Rest in peace.

Although I didn't get to know Skip, I do know his sister Helen. She is a special person and a delight to know as a sister-in-law. Knowing Helen has enriched my life. I am sure that knowing Skip would have proved to be a treasure. My heart felt love goes to all.

I want to take a little time to write a tribute but for now I'd like to post some pictures to share with those who knew and loved our brother. Here is one Barb took of Speedy, his well-loved Maine Coon cat.
