I just happened to be on the internet tonight and saw the obituary page for the Finger Lakes times had the loss of Joan Daeffler's mother. I remembered how much the loss of the family dog had made everyone so sad and thought I'd really better let you know that I was thinking of you in this loss, so much more moving, to be sure! I was just thinking a few days ago that my father has been gone for almost 21 years, and my mother for over 12. I can tell you that before she died, my mom lived with me, and one day, she had a strange situation; she had been visited by two nuns from Nazarath Hall who had taught her painting lessons on Saturday mornings when she was a teenager. They had come to tell her that they were preparing a place for her! She had an absolutely glowing look on her face; she looked like the medieval art work that showed halos around the holy people. Now my mother is NOT Catholic, but after that, she was fully confident in her next life, and I was, too. I have told this to many people. I believe your mother must be there, too.
I am living in Canandaigua now. It turns out I have a rare genetic disease that didn't get diagnosed until I was 68. Its called Charcot Marie Tooth, and causes you to have numb feet, all the way up -mine goes up to my thighs now.My hands are also involved, and my balance is, too - why I was falling a lot before I left my house. I had to go to a ground floor apartment. It wasn't easy; I'd been in my house for 40 years. However, after I retired, so much had changed, it wasn't funny. Peter is working on his PhD now. He's been having some chronic health problems this year, but hopes to have some final surgery to fix it over the winter break. Meanwhile he is a business management advisor in a bank's upper management. With poor Kayo gone, I do not miss Waterloo. Richard moved out three months after I retired. I do not miss him at all. He had a very hard life after that. His loss, not mine.
