FAYETTE – Darlene E. Poormon, 73, of Fayette, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (November 12, 2019) at her home with her loving family by her side, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Friends may call 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 24) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home, Waterloo, NY. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday (Nov. 25) at Seneca Falls Presbyterian Church. Rev. Leah Ntuala, pastor, will officiate. A private burial will be Fayette Rural Cemetery, Fayette, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Romulus Foundation for Educational Opportunities, 5705 St. Rt. 96, Romulus, NY, 14541.
Darlene was born Oct. 14, 1946, in Geneva, NY, the daughter of Frank Saeger and Patricia Una Meagan Case. She was a 1964 graduate of Romulus Central School District. Darlene was a graduate of SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Elementary Education. Darlene began her teaching career at Seneca Falls Middle School where she taught till she left to raise her family. While working as a substitute in Romulus she was given the opportunity for a full time teaching position. She retired after dedicating 30 years to teaching, so she could focus her attention on her favorite job as a full-time grandmother. Darlene was never far from her grandchildren' sporting events, concerts or plays. She often joked she was Grandma's Taxi.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Kenneth R. Poormon; daughters, Wendy (Brian) Knapp of Madison, NY and Rebecca Jessop of Fayette, NY; grandchildren, Nicole (Dan) Harris of Oriskany Falls, NY, Amanda Knapp of Madison, NY, Carolyn and Benjamin Jessop both of Fayette, NY; brother, Frank (Dorothy) Case of Romulus, NY and Paul (Petrina) Case of Palmyra, NY; sister-in-law, Joan Case of Waverly, NY; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was predeceased by her parents; son, Trp. Kenneth A. Poormon; and brother, Raymond Case.
