Obituary of Benny Gene Smith

WATERLOO – Benny G. Smith, 76, of 8 Taylor Ave., died Sunday (August 20, 2017) at Geneva General Hospital. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 27) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday (Aug.28) at West Fayette Presbyterian Church, 1063 St. Rt. 414, Fayette, NY. Stephen Beals, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation, Upstate New York Chapter, 3300 Monroe Ave., Ste. 319, Rochester, NY, 14618 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38101-9908. Benny was born Dec. 31, 1940,in Fayette, the son of Alfred E. and Jenny L. Clark Smith. He was employed with Caulkins Tires for 32 years. Later he was employed with G. W. Lisk, until he retired. He was a member of the Waterloo Sportsmans Club. He is survived by his daughter, Penny (Kenneth) Saunders of Seneca Falls; grandchildren Brandon Smith of Waterloo, N.Y., Joseph Derleth of Romulus, NY, Cheyann Saunders and David Saunders both of Seneca Falls, NY; great-grandchildren Keira Kay Derlethand Joseph Derleth, Jr.; brothers Don (Sharon) Smith, Bobby (Pat) Smith, Wayne(Judy) Smith, Marvin (Heidi) Smith, Dick (Judy) Smith, Dale (Flo) Smith, Harold(Dawn) Smith, Roger (Charlotte) Smith; sister, Linda (Richard) Popavich; sisters-in-law Rose Smith and Cheryl Smith; many nieces and nephews. Benny was predeceased by his wife, Avalea "Dutch" Smith who died Aug. 10, 2017; brothers Jack, Alfred "Al", and Jim Smith; sisters, June Pine, Hazel Smith, Joyce Mueller, Victoria "Vicky" Green, and Helen Campbell.
