Obituary of James George Patsos

James G. Patsos, Sr.
Waterloo/Tyre - James G. Patsos, Sr. passed away in his home Wednesday, September 28, 2016. He was 91 years old. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. James was the patriarch of four generations.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 1) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, (Oct. 2) at the First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. Rev. Sarah West, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Nancy Torphy, retired pastor of the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, 42 E. Main St. Waterloo, NY 13165
James was born March 25, 1925 in Syracuse, the son of Nicholas J. and Louisa D. Mack Nair Patsos and was raised in Syracuse, NY. James graduated from Syracuse University College of Forestry in 1953. In 1950, he established the Beltavern Farm dairy herd on a small farm in Memphis, NY, while working for Carrier Corporation. In 1963, he moved his family to Waterloo, NY to take up farming full-time, which became a life-long passion of his.
James raised dairy cows for 52 years with his wife, ten children and many grandchildren. A leader in the Ayrshire breeding community, he was the recipient of the National Ayrshire Breeder's Association's 2011 Distinguished Service Award, the past president of the New York Ayrshire Club and past Treasurer of the National Ayrshire Breeder's Association. James also founded the United Dairy Cooperative Services in the early 1990s, and served as its CEO until he retired at 81 years old.
James was formerly an Eagle Scout, Boy Scout troop leader, 4-H leader for over 25 years, and treasurer of the Waterloo First Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. James was a natural leader and prominent member of the community. He enjoyed woodworking and model trains, and was extremely proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments.
James is survived by his wife, Helen M. Curry Patsos; children, James (Deborah) Patsos, Jr. of Waterloo, Stephen (Toni) Patsos of Seneca Falls, Eileen (Patsos) Taylor of Newark, Christine Patsos of Syracuse, Mark (Micki Robinson) Patsos of St. Petersburg, FL, Daniel (Virginia) Patsos of Walton, Catherine Patsos of Pelham and Nancy Patsos of NYC; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; step-children, Kim (John) Tiaskkun,of Palm Coast, Fl, Cindy (Les) Gales of Bloomfield, Chris Curry and Jeffrey Curry, both of Rochester; 5 step-grandchildren; son-in-law, Arnold "Art" Berman of Shippensburg, PA; sisters, Luella (Donald) Cleverly of Poughkeepsie and Jeannette (George) Beck of Marcellus; sister-in-law, Ann Patsos of Syracuse; many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret "Betsy" Patsos; daughters, Carolyn "Keyo" Griffiths and Margaret Evans; grandson, Matthew Patsos; brother, Cornell Patsos; sister, Elizabeth Moon; and son-in-law, John Taylor.
