Obituary of Gary Dunlap

Waterloo - Gary M. Dunlap, 70, of Waterloo, died Wednesday (October 7, 2015) at his home.
There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to the memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 13) in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Varick.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Beverly's Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Gary was born August 16, 1945 in Magdalena, the son of Ronald H. and Lucile L. Evans Dunlap. He was a 1963 graduate of Manzano High School, in Albuquerque, N.M. He began employment with a grocery store then entered the service, serving in the Marine Corps from 1965 to 1967. In 1970 Gary and his family moved to Waterloo. He was then employed with Sylvania for about six years. Leaving employment at Sylvania he was employed at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua for twenty-three years. He worked as a nursing assistant for many years, eventually developing an art program for the medical center. Before leaving his employment he worked at the Rochester Outpatient Clinic for a few years. Gary was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was also a member of Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis D. Baldwin Dunlap; sons, Eric B. Dunlap of Waterloo and Don M. (Mikaela Harris) Dunlap of Pittsford; grandchildren, Jacob Dunlap, Madison Dunlap, Elijah Dunlap, and Myles Parker; step-sisters, Rhonda Jean Huckabee of Texas and Nancy Watkins of Calif.; Jacob's mother, Kerri-Ann VanCleef of Waterloo; Uncle Roy Dunlap; cousins, Judee Blaich and Carla Beitler; and many nieces and nephews; his faithful canine companion, Trinity.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and brother, Dana Dunlap.
The family extends a very sincere "thank you" to Gary's caregivers, Jackie, Susan, Rachel, Carissa, Megan, Marc,and Gary's friends from St. Paul's Epsicopal Church. Special "thank you" to the staff at Interlakes Oncology and Dr. Kleiner.
