Waterloo - Larry J. Stein, 63, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully Monday (May 25, 2015) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva, with his loving family by his side.
In keeping with Larry's request there will be no calling hours. The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday (May 30) at Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Saturday (May 30) at North Seneca Sportman's Club, 334 NYS RT. 318, Waterloo/Phelps.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Beverly's Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY 13165 or Pathway Home, P. O. Box 516, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
Larry was born Feb.14, 1952 in Seneca Falls, the son of Herman and Betty Beers Stein. He was a 1970 graduate of Waterloo High School. Larry was formerly employed with Greenwood Foods, later Comstock. He and his father, owned and managed The Stein in Waterloo and and The Keady Hotel in Hayts Corners. In recent years, before he retired, he worked for Seneca County Department of Social Services as a Senior Support Collector. He was a member of the Waterloo United Methodist Church. Larry enjoyed gardening, shopping, and especially square dancing. He was a member of various square dance clubs in the area. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Betty J. Stein of Waterloo; brothers, Clifford (JoAnne) Stein and Mark (Marlene) Stein both of Waterloo; sister, Kathie Stein of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Diane Smith Stein of Waterloo; nieces and nephews who he loved as if they were his own children, Betty Jo (Charles) Parker, Clifford (Pam) Stein, Jr., Colleen (Shawn) Adle, Rebecca Kingston, Michael Stein, Alissa (Dave) Stein, Nicole Kingston, Jessica (Matt) Wood, Rusty Kerns, Ashley Stein; and several great nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Julie (Craig) De Meyers, Nancy (Dave) Mc Intyre, David (Sharon) Van Der Linde and Lori (Don) Van Der Linde; and many step grandchildren.
Larry was predeceased by wife, Lois Van Der Linde Stein, in 2012; his father, Herman "Butch" Stein in 2009; and his brother, Rodney "Rock" Stein in 2009.
