Obituary of Clara Swegel

Watkins Glen/Waterloo - Clara M. Swegel, 93, formerly of Watkins Glen, died Monday (March 16, 2015) in Huntington Living Center in Waterloo. There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be 10 a.m. Friday (March 20) at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 25 Center St., Waterloo. Rev. James Fennessy, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Care Net Pregnancy Care Center of the Finger Lakes, P.O. Box 733, Geneva, New York, 14456. Clara was born May 30, 1921, in Winona, Minnesota, the daughter of Jacob and Clara Palubicki Budnik. After marrying her husband, George, they resided many years in Kansas City, where Clara was an English teacher for St. Thomas More and Aquinas High School. Clara's husband died, Jan. 31, 2001. She moved in 2007, to Watkins Glen to live with her brother, Rev. Austin Budnik. Due to his failing health, Clara and Austin moved to Waterloo in 2008, to live closer to their caregivers. Clara is survived by very close friends and caregivers, Eleanor Jackson, Eileen and Rick Miller, Lynn Wagner, Donald Prouty, Kati Dresser, Austin James Rossman, Haylee Prouty, and Daiker Prouty.
