Obituary of Bernice Caward

Waterloo - Bernice R. Caward, 88, of Waterloo, died Friday (January 9, 2015) at Seneca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo.
Friends may call 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 17) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Sat. (Jan. 17) at the funeral home. Rev. Sarah West, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, will officiate. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to sent to Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion, 1 E. William St., Waterloo, NY 13165; Beverly's Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY, 13165; or Finger Lakes Lodge 823, Moose Club, 435 Waterloo-Geneva Rd., Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Bernice was born July 26, 1926 in Bismarck, N.D. the daughter of Melvel B. and Pearl Smith Creswell. She was a 1945 graduate of Interlaken Central School. Bernice began employment in 1945, working for one year, at Sampson Naval Base. In 1949, she was employed at Willard Psychiatric Hospital, working there until 1951. Leaving employment at Willard, she was employed at Sampson Air Force Base until 1956. After Sampson Air Force Base closed she returned to Willard in 1960 and continued to work until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion Auxiliary. Bernice was also a member of the Finger Lakes Lodge 823, Moose Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Dennis) Booth of Waterloo; son, Patrick D. (Sherry) Caward of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Jeremy Poormon of Brockport, Jessica (Brad) Quigley in Rochester, and Joshua Caward of Gastonia, NC; step-grandchildren, Paul Booth and Joseph Booth both of Waterloo; five great-grandchildren; sister, Nellie Schramn of Deland, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Walter F. Caward; and eleven brothers and sisters.
