Geneva - Michael Craig Flaherty, 69, of 27 State Route 96, died Monday (June 30, 2014) at his home with his loving family by his side.
Friends may call 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday (July 2) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday (July 3) at the funeral home. Rev. Ellen Donnan, pastor of Junius Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Oaks Corners.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Oaks Corners Volunteer Fire Dept., 607 Cross Road, Oaks Corners, NY, 14518.
Michael was born November 7, 1944 in Philadelphia, the son of Charles J. and Josephine Chichoski Flaherty. He was a graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. Mike retired after many years of employment with the FLDDSO in Newark and later, Rochester. He was a member of the People Committee at FLDDSO. He also served as a Fire Police for the Oaks Corners Volunteer Fire Department. For a number of years he played Santa Claus for private homes, day cares, and various fire departments.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Ellis Flaherty; step-son, Fred (Tracy Lyman) Gruele of Newark; step-daughters, Holly (Willie) Williams of Newark and Eleanor "Elly" (Scott) Beattie of Waterloo; many grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Lewis (Linda) Barbi of Lyons; sister, Lou Anne (Patrick) Ryan of Romulus, and many nieces and nephews.
