Obituary of Joan Urbano

Watertown/Waterloo - Joan M. Hauf Urbano, 76, of Watertown, died Friday (May 23, 2014) at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday (May 29) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home, 46 W. Main St., Waterloo, NY. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday (May 30) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Country Quilting Guild, P.O. Box 813, Watertown, NY, 13601. Joan was born July 18, 1937 in Waterloo, the daughter of Richard E. and Frances J. Ridley Hauf. She was a 1955 graduate of Waterloo High School. Joan earned her Associates Degree in Accounting, in 1984, from FLCC. She was employed for 15 years in various positions with the Newark School District, then Jefferson - Lewis BOCES for eighteen years, retiring in August of 2004. She was involved with Girl Scouts America for over fifty years. An avid quilter, she was a member of the North Country Quilting Guild. She is survived by daughters, Kathleen House and Patricia Blankenberg both of Newark, Maureen (Steven) Belair of Hereford, AZ and Jane (Paul) Welcome of Averill Park; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Jim Gleason of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Geraldine Hauf of Tampa; aunts, uncles, many cousins, many nieces and nephews.
